I made two promises last week. One was a promise I made to myself that I will never again take a 16-hour road trip with two toddlers. Unless we move and I absolutely have to do it. And then I’ll probably be in the back seat screaming the entire time. And then the kids can record me for a change.
The second promise is that I would publish this video here today. But, before you view it, there are eight things you should know:
- No two clips are the same.
- I sent hours of this footage to Gitmo.
- These are the happier moments I captured. (I spared you the unhappy ones.)
- No children were harmed in the making of this video.
- Though, children may have been disciplined in the making of this video.
- Brian and I have decided to save up so we can invest in our own plane and cut travel time by approximately 78%. (Brian ran some numbers.)
- A private jet is cheaper than therapy. (I ran some numbers.)
- Hold me.
Birth control, anyone?

[…] 4, 2013 by Katy in a Corner in Daily Post, Photos with No Comments Remember a few weeks ago when I said I would never again take a road trip while our kids are toddlers? Remember that? Remember how I said I’d rather rip off my toenails with a […]
I just love you, you know it? Back in the day (way back, my girls are both in their (cough) 40’s) I took an 8 hour drive with them. But back then they didn’t have to strapped in within an inch of their lives. They just bobbed along in the back seat, on the floor, climbing over to the front seat…..you know, typical kid stuff. Fun, huh?! Dona
That is EXACTLY like life in our car – I’d never attempt a 16 hour trip! You must be very brave. We have a 10 hour trip coming up and I’m contemplating Xanax.
Oh my, I remember making a trip from Chattanooga to Maine with a 1 1/2 year old, and I practically rubbed his feet the whole way because it was the only thing that kept him happy!
SarahLudwig I really don’t recommend Xanax, Sarah. Let’s not get silly. I’d go straight for morphine. At least it’ll knock you out.
imklvr Dona, it wasn’t that long ago that kids were hanging out in the rear windows! I remember doing that myself. It was warm up there. Like a clear tanning bed with road noise. Sooooo relaxing. 🙂
@Margo Yup. That’s my Averi. Rubbing her leg or face or foot or whatever is the only thing that keeps her quiet. Otherwise she screams NON STOP just for fun.
That was great but who was playing the piano and how did you fit it in the car?
PappyJack Oh, that was Brian playing the dashboard piano. 🙂
You certainly did spare your viewing audience the worst of it, and I do think the snappy piano music made it more pleasant. Thank goodness THAT drive is behind you!
Oh that is funny. My triplets are 7 and my youngest is 5, and we have never gone on vacation with them. Sad, yes, but we do things locally so we don’t have to drive in the car with them for hours. Bless you! 16 hours??
@Robyn Thank goodness, indeed!!!
WrinkledMommy 4 kids…three of them TRIPLETS? Your every waking moment must feel like a 16-hour road trip!
Sadly, I had a horrible road trip myself last week. It wasn’t 16 hours though. It was just a trip to the grocery store. But it did make me want to stab myself in the ears. The ridiculousness of tween sister arguments is mindblowing. It made me want to go straight to my mom’s house and hug her for letting me and my sister survive.
You could make a living off this stuff, Katy. Oh, yeah. You do.
They are so much fun. Not so sure I would want to travel with them 16 hours at this stage without headphones!! Love you!!
We just pcs’d from Florida to California and did a cross country trip in a mini van with a 4 and 2 year old. Oh and a Great Dane too! There were moments I wanted to jump out of the car at 80mph, lol.
You did WHAT?!?!?!?!? That’s just torture right there.
Adrienn Hahahahaha!!! I haven’t yet thanked my mom for letting us survive. Because I’m not sure she intended to. 😉
All I can say is that I’m glad we did our road trip PCS from Florida to Alaska BEFORE kids! haha 2 weeks in a packed car was ENOUGH for us….no need to add kids or animals! =) My blog posts are nowhere near as fun as yours… guess when we start poppin the chitlins out that will change!
