Tragedy, Irony & Humor

Cross

I couldn’t pull myself away from the computer last night as I read article after article about the senseless bombings that occurred in Boston. I can’t imagine the gore, the terror, the agony and the panic that those people and their families must have experienced. My heart is so heavy…

And as I sat down to publish part 2 of my “How to be the Perfect Grandparent” video, it occurred to me that there is a section in it that jokes about a marathon and a finish line. Even though I created the video over a week ago, I couldn’t bring myself to publish it so soon after this horrible tragedy (that occurred at a marathon finish line).

God forbid that my silly sense of humor would offend even ONE of my precious readers. It just isn’t worth it.

So, I will simply leave you with a verse from a book whose message is offensive to many (1 Corinthians 1:18). But it is the only book that can adequately give us the reason why…

WHY all the tragedy?

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)

Well said, Katy!!  Thank you for being sensitive to the hurt of others, as well as, pointing your readers to the only Source of truth.  I am reminded of the scenario recorded in John 6.  Many of Jesus’ followers could not understand the hard things and so they left Him.  Jesus then turns to His disciples and says, “Do you want to go away as well?” Peter’s response resonates with TRUTH…. “LORD, TO WHOM SHALL WE GO? YOU HAVE THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE…” I pray that anyone who is deep in hurt and depression, thinking they cannot understand the “hard things” of life, will read Peter’s simple, trusting response to Jesus and will turn from that despair and cling to the ONE who has the words of eternal life…
The wonderful result of that turning and trusting is HOPE and JOY…
    Blessings to you, Katy.

Thanks, Katy.  That was so important to read today.  Even in the face of evil, good always prevails.
