Some of you may have picked up on all the hubbub on my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, but Brian and I dashed off to New York City last Saturday for a pretty exciting opportunity. I was selected to join the Google Glass Explorer Program.
Now, In case you are like me and never really know what’s happening until your mom calls to tell you, I’ll give you a quick overview of what that all means:
1) Google invented a wearable computer. It looks like a pair of glasses. They call it Google Glass (or “GLΛSS” if we’re getting really specific).
2) Google then chose a select number of people to beta test this new technology. These people are called “Explorers.”
3) Google thought, “Who better to wear GLΛSS than a stay-at-home mommy blogger who basically watches cartoons all day and will probably post ridiculous videos of herself using our groundbreaking technology incorrectly?”
Naturally, I was invited to join the Google Glass program.
I believe it was because of all my experience with cartoon explorers—thanks, Dora!
4) I paid the equivalent of a mortgage payment on a house in the Hamptons to fly to New York City and pick up this technological fashion statement.
5) I gave the fantastic Google employees the chance to dumb down their Glass presentation so that a “layperson” could understand it. They did a great job.
6) I created the video you see here.
7) Google immediately regretted their decision to choose me for their program.
8) Armed guards showed up at my door to take away my Google Glass. A struggle then ensued. I screamed, “How did you find me?” And they were all, “Lady, we’re GOOGLE.” And I’m all, “Ok, Glass. Get me the Mayor on the phone. STAT!”
9) My husband told me I watch too many Law & Order reruns.

Y’all asked for it, and we’re doing it. We just installed a new comment system! So sorry to those who commented today, but they didn’t transition to the new system. Please feel free to comment again if you see that yours disappeared. Sorry, guys. Going through some growing pains!
The future is here and you’ve got a weird looking apparatus on your face. I need to do some research on GLASS because I can’t stop wondering how everyone is going to keep from running into each other, trees and mailboxes with them on. Thank you for your service to humanity during these trials. Wear padding! (Here from Finding the Funny.)
Shelby’s chorus teacher from last year did your theme music? That’s cool 🙂
I’d never heard of this Google Glass until your videos. I went to the their website to see the other things it does – Pretty cool! Can’t wait to get mine…probably after everyone else has there’s and they’re the equivalent to a flip-phone because the newer thing has come out because I’m always behind the times.
