It’s weird to live in a place where snow just isn’t a big deal. Where we’re from in Georgia, a snow day is almost as thrilling as a Honey Boo Boo sighting.
Almost.
Still reeling from that one.
We got pounded with about ten inches of snow last Saturday night, and no one else in Kansas or Missouri seems to think it’s out of the ordinary.
IT’S NEARLY EASTER SUNDAY, PEOPLE!
I’m supposed to be wearing sundresses and sandals already. (Just not white ones yet. Because my mama raised me right.)
We spent Palm Sunday holed up again because the snow was still coming down when we would ordinarily leave for church. And also because the four of us still have this sneezing, runny nose, coughing, sore throat thing that is bad enough that one of us visited the emergency room last week.
But I won’t relive that for you. (You can watch the video.)
As I watched the snow flurries trickle down and amass into a blanket of pure, white beauty, I couldn’t help but think of my favorite childhood photo of me in the snow. It was taken on a ski trip I took with a childhood friend, and it perfectly captured my feelings about the snow—both as a child and now that I have children of my own.
I’m the beauty queen on the left. The overstuffed one with a bowl cut who looks like she just spent the whole day drinking Pepto-Bismol and making snow devils.
Don’t ask.
And look at my happy friend in all her snow bunny cuteness. She even has bunnies on her hat, for goodness’ sake! Look at the joy on her sweet face as she stands there in the beautiful, white(ish) snow.
By the way this is how MOST children feel about the snow…
even my own.
I wasn’t most children.
I did and still do despise the cold.
Almost as much as I despise having a cold. Or Bleeding Esophageal Verices.
(She just can’t shut up about it, can she?)
Fortunately, I do think the snow should melt away by Easter morning so we can spend the day at church pondering the glorious resurrection of Jesus, whose blood “washed me white as snow.”
And now I feel kinda bad for being such a snow hater.
Oh my gosh Katy you guys got so much snow!!! I wish I could just have one snow day and then I would want it to melt right after I was done playing 🙂 I will say you are a mighty fine snow bunny but not as cute as you mini me!!! Glad the kiddos are enjoying it 🙂
I hope that snow disappears by the time I arrive. Love the pictures of the kids.
Katy, I am trying to respond from my phone and it auto corrected my name. Instead of Katy’s Mama it put Katy’s Man. HOW DO I CORRECT THAT?????
Yes, but I live near you! Great post, as always!
We officially had a trace of snow in Atlanta yesterday! I know–big deal…but it IS Atlanta and the end of March!
OMG I am sitting in the airport and just laughed out loud…too funny and NO there is not snow where I live and I am pretty sure it is safe to say there never will be LOL
Totally agree. I despise the cold. Why are we being tortured this year?!
